We at 1 Thing would like to introduce our newest blogger, Lori Lucas. She’s a fiesty, tattooed little lady with a huge passion for sustainability. Oh, and she takes rockin' photographs. And so, without further ado, here’s Lori:

Did you know that the actions of people around you have a greater influence on your own actions than you may realize?  Individuals are most likely to follow the behaviors of others who share similar characteristics, and we tend to take our social cues from them.  For example, if one or more people were to stare up into the sky in the middle of a crowded sidewalk, it is very likely that others will also stop to see what they are seeing.  Researchers even had to abort this experiment because so many people would look up that it stopped traffic!

People will do things that they see others doing.  A very famous social psychologist, Robert Cialdini, has based his entire career on this research.  He classifies this as one of the “Six Weapons of Influence,” a very powerful behavioral theory.   

1Thing’s messages encourage people to change one simple thing in their life to help improve the environment, like many people who have already taken that step.  And when people incorporate more 1Things into their everyday life and share it with the people around them, it becomes just a normal part of life. 

It’s my goal in this blog to share with you the things I do in my normal life to help conserve our natural resources.  I’m far from perfect, but I feel as long as I’m aware of my actions, it will encourage me to improve and adapt to our changing lifestyles.  Plus, this blog will be a fun way to explore new 1Things.
